In Moldova, convicted banker Plato was released from prison

On June 15, the court of the Moldavian capital Chisinau decided to release businessman Vyacheslav Platon, who is serving an 18-year sentence in prison in the case of bank fraud and the theft of 1 billion euros from the country's banking system. According to the news agency, Prosecutor General Alexander Stoyanoglo applied for suspension to the court. Earlier, Stoyanoglo said that Plato, who was tried under the regime of oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc, was unjustly convicted, and his case was falsified. The prosecutor general also said that the main beneficiary of the theft of the billion was Plahotniuc, and he was charged in absentia. And Plato became the main witness in this case. The case of Plato himself was sent for audit, and a new trial awaits him. Plato was convicted after Ukraine illegally extradited him to Moldova in 2016, despite having Ukrainian citizenship. This was done after the personal intervention of Petro Poroshenko, who was Plahotniuc's business partner.
