Georgian Defense Ministry plans to purchase special vehicles

The Ministry of Defense of Georgia signed an agreement with a number of Western companies on the acquisition of special vehicles for the needs of the army. This was announced on June 22 by the press service of the department. According to the Ministry of Defense, a program will be launched in the armed forces of Georgia to replace the obsolete Soviet equipment with cars from the brands MAN, IVECO and FORD. How much it will cost, and where funds will be taken for the purchase of new equipment is not said. For the first time, the Georgian military will have special-purpose vehicles that meet the standards of NATO member countries, the Ministry of Defense said. Replacement is planned to be carried out in several stages and more than one year. The military department notes that from an economic point of view, the acquisition of new equipment will be profitable, since servicing old cars costs millions of lari each year. Recall, on June 8, Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Garibashvili said that they would try to establish the production of Su-25 aircraft in the country.
